A plumbing site built dark, for a trade that works in the dark

The only one of the six built on black, and the only one where the hero is lit from inside.

The brief

What the site had to do.

A domestic plumber competes on two things: whether you pick up, and whether the price is agreed before the work starts. Everything on the page is arranged around those two, and the design has to feel expensive enough to justify a firm that does not discount.

01 / THE HERO

A slice through the wall

Not a house: a vertical slice through a wall and floor, close enough that the studs run off the top of the frame. Studs, insulation, joists and the pipe run, with water travelling the pipe and the boiler firing. The only thing lit is the water, which is the only thing the customer is actually paying for.

02 / COLOUR

Dark, because everything else in the trade is blue

Trade plumbing sites are overwhelmingly royal blue on white with a stock photo of a smiling man holding a wrench. This one is near-black with a single accent, which does more for a firm charging properly than another blue gradient would.

03 / PRICING

Priced before anything starts, said in the headline

The strongest objection a plumber faces is the open-ended hourly clock. So the headline is "Fair priced, properly done" and the first paragraph commits to a price agreed before work begins — the objection answered before the visitor has scrolled.

How it was built

The same standard on every one.

Under 100KBthe whole page, over the wire

4.5:1contrast minimum, checked on phone and desktop

Every page is checked for colour contrast, tap-target size, form labelling, heading order and horizontal scrolling at desktop and at 390px before it goes out. The animations stop for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion. More on what we do for trades in Sheffield.
